The Co-op is starting to plant its own vineyard on its farm at Down Ampney, Cirencester, in Gloucestershire, to add to its Grown by us range.

With about six acres of vine, planted mainly to the Ortega grape variety, it will be another four years before the wine appears in stores, but it is a sign that English wine has become mainstream.
