On the grapevine

Congratulations to Kim Thompson of Leeds who triumphed in the blind tasting which was used to select an associate judge to join my panel at the International Wine Challenge in London next week. This is the most important wine competition in the UK, when more than 10,000 wines will be blind-tasted and assessed. The other contenders – readers Cawood, Dixon, Pratt and Spakouskas – also did extremely well.

Off the shelf

Apologies to everyone who hiked off to Booths, only to find that Concha y Toro Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc was not available. Apparently, the earthquake has disrupted despatches from Chile and so supplies for the offer are limited. But once normal service is resumed, the offer will be back on – I'll let you know, this is a wine not to be missed.

Tastings

Friday nights continue to be tasting nights at Latitude in The Calls in Leeds. Next Friday sees a Provence Ros and a Minervois open for tasting between 5 and 7pm, while the following week has a couple of wines from the Veneto on show. Tastings are free and you don't even have to buy a bottle, but I suspect you will. Ring Latitude on 0113 245 3393 for details.
