The Belvoir-based creamery, which sells its signature Stilton to Waitrose and independent cheesemongers, has been run by Mr Skailes’ family for 75 years.

The company is no stranger to the winners’ stand at Harrogate, having taken the award for its blue Shropshire cheese ten years ago.

Mr Skailes said: “It can only have a good effect on our business. It’s about proving to the world that we make the best cheese.”
