Off the shelf

Here is this week's top pick of good value bottles to savour

Casillero del Diablo Limari Chardonnay 2009, Chile, Morrisons, down from 7.49 to 4.99 until October 3. Bright crisp, citrusy fruit with a dash of herbs on the palate and a spot of cream on the finish. Certainly worth its full price so stock up with this cool-climate, fresh-tasting wine.

Tesco Finest Old Vines Tempranillo 2009, Extremadura, Spain, down from 6.99 to 5.24 until October 5. I like this wine even more than last week's recommended Old Vines Garnacha. With delicious redcurrant aromas then soft, red berry fruit on the palate and gentle vanilla notes.

Tesco Finest Marlborough Pinot Noir 2009, New Zealand, down from 9.49 to 7.12 until October 5. This comes from the classy Highfield Estate and is hand-plunged to get all the flavour with smooth elegant tannins. Clean, clear Pinot fruit, with just a light touch of oak.

Lindauer Special Reserve Brut Sparkling Wine, New Zealand, Waitrose down from 10.99 to 8.79 until October 12. A notch up from the regular Lindauer, this is a very pale pink with a creamy mousse, ripe fresh strawberry nose and a touch of freshly-baked brioche.
