Here is this week's top pick of good value bottles to savour

Ara Pathway Sauvignon Blanc 2009, New Zealand, Morrisons, down from 7.99 to 5.99 from September 20 until October 2. With crisp, lively tropical fruit and the scent of a freshly mown lawn, this wine still tastes of summer, even if the nights are drawing in. It has enough minerally depth to cope with fish, salads and goat's cheese.

Vergelegen Chardonnay 2009, South Africa, Majestic, down from 10.99 to 7.99 on multibuy until September 27. This is a terrific wine with class well above its discounted price point. Fermented in French oak, it has a light buttery style, but the fruit shines through giving balance and elegance.

Tesco Finest Old Vines Garnacha 2008, Spain, down from 6.99 to 5.24 until October 5. A real autumn wine, full of rounded damson fruit with soft, pliable tannins and a long, warming finish. Good value at 1 more, stock up.

Peter Lehmann Shiraz 2006 Barossa, Australia, Waitrose down from 8.99 to 7.19 until September 21. Full of smooth, smoky, black cherry and blackberry fruit with a touch of spice, this wine is just made for the first casserole of autumn.
