Off the shelf

Here is this week's top pick of good value bottles to savour

Brown Brothers Moscato Rosa 2009, Australia, Waitrose, down from 6.49 to 5.19 until August 24. A low-alcohol (7 per cent) mouthful of fresh raspberry, strawberry and grapey flavours with sherberty semi-sparkling fizz and a refreshing finish. It is fairly sweet, but not cloying.

Via Maipo 2009 Ros, Chile, Sainsbury, down from 7.99 to 3.99 until August 31. This looks like a stock clearance to me, so take advantage and buy enough to last you until the end of summer. It has good juicy raspberry fruit and enough flavour to be worth its offer price.

Tesco Finest Block 13 McLaren Vale Shiraz-Grenache 2008, down from 8.49 to 6.36 until August 24. Well worth its full price, this wine is a bargain while on offer. Its soft, peppery fruit will drink well as summer turns to autumn, so don't hold back when you stack your trolley.

Tesco Finest Bisol Prosecco di Valdobbiadene, Italy, down from 9.99 to 7.99 until September 7. Prosecco will never be a champagne substitute, but it works really well as a family-gathering wine since that every so slight touch of sweetness means that everyone likes it.
