The Ned Sauvignon Blanc 2009, New Zealand, Majestic down from £8.74 to £6.99 until August 30. Another gem from Majestic's 20 per cent reduction on all New Zealand wines. This is refreshingly crunchy with herbaceous fruit. Team it with fish, salads and goat's cheese.

Villa Maria Private Bin Gewurztraminer 2009, New Zealand, Majestic 9.99 to 7.99 until August 30. This peachy, floral, spicy grape hits its stride in summer when it combines wonderfully with the tastes of a salmon steak grilled with ginger or a spice-dusted chicken wing. Also good with light curries.

La Selve Maguelonne 2009, Coteaux de l'Ardche, Oddbins, down from 9.99 to 7.99 until August 15. Now down to 7.99 at Oddbins, this lively, spice-edged, Grenache-dominated Rhne ros is perfect for summer lunchtime drinking. Alternatively, there's a bottle in the July Yorkshire Post wine club case.

Porcupine Ridge Syrah, 2009, South Africa, Waitrose, down from 7.49 to 5.59 until August 24. If they asked 8 for this wine it would be a fair price, but on offer it is a bargain. This is a silky, rounded, black-pepper edged plum-filled wine that cries out for a rump steak.
