Off the shelf

Here is this week's top pick of good value bottles to savour

Jordan's Bradgate Chenin Sauvignon 2009, South Africa, Oddbins, down from 8.99 to 6.99 until July 18. Delicious tropical pear flavours, lifted by green herbaceous notes. This is a great aperitif, or can carry through to drink with salads and fish.

Tierra y Hombre Pinot Noir 2009, Marks and Spencer, down from 6.99 to 4.99 from July 5 until September 5. There's enough round, deep, strawberry and spice fruit to justify the full price, but at this offer price it is a bargain. Stock up and drink it on its own, with salmon, grilled meats and chicken.

Sangre de Toro 2007, Torres, Spain, Asda, down from 7.03 to 5 until August 17. Now without the little plastic bulls which used to adorn the capsules and surprisingly updated in flavour, with ripe, juicy forest fruits and a touch of spice. Good quality, informal drinking.

Lindauer Brut, New Zealand, Majestic, down from 9.99 to 7.99 until August 30. Delicious, soft, toasty fizz that is just perfect for garden sipping.
