Torode and Wallace to shop around for top young chef

In celebration of the centre’s new Oasis Dining Quarter, the competition will see trainee chefs from Meadowhall’s restaurants given the opportunity to compete for the coveted title of Master Sheff.

Participants will have to create an innovative new dish in line with their restaurant’s culinary theme, with the winning meal being the one deemed most tastebud-tantalising and relevant to target audience and brand by the MasterChef duo.

The competition will culminate on Wednesday February 15, when John and Gregg will take a break from MasterChef and arrive at the centre to polish their cutlery and get down to the important business of judging.

The winner will be awarded the exclusive Master Sheff trophy and be given an opportunity to put their winning dish on the menu.

Meadowhall Centre director, Darren Pearce, said: “The launch of our new Oasis Dining Quarter has seen us welcome a host of top restaurants into the centre – from ChaoBaby to Rice.

“This means we have some great up-and-coming chefs working at Meadowhall, so we thought what better way to celebrate this than to invite John and Gregg down to judge our very own Master Sheff.

“I can’t wait to see what the trainee chefs come up with and I’ll definitely be there on the day to have a taste.”

After 20 years of basking in the sun of its Marbella-themed food court, Meadowhall Shopping Centre announced plans in 2010 to overhaul its food court with a £7m revamp.

Now, the centre has opened its doors to the revamped Oasis Dining Quarter, complete with a new restaurant mezzanine and gourmet outlets.

Alongside restaurants that opened in 2010, including TGI Fridays, Wagamama and Café Rouge, Meadowhall’s new Oasis Dining Quarter is host to a number of new eateries offering an array of international cuisines.

Far East experts ChaoBaby evoke the exotic sights and smells of a bustling Thai street market, while Las Iguanas give Latin American lovers the chance to salsa their way around the delights of South America.

Giraffe’s extensive menu offers fresh feel-good food from all four corners of the globe, while the talented team behind Rice offers diners savoury rice-based dishes from their far-flung travels.

For diners who prefer traditional English fare, Meadowhall’s new Harvester watering hole offers a family-friendly atmosphere plus generous helpings of fresh, hearty food.

The chefs taking part in the competition will be announced in the near future.
