“We really liked the way it looked from the outside and the layout inside works well. It has a warm, cosy feel, plus Kilham is a beautiful place to live,” says Simon. “There are some lovely walks and cycling routes as we are surrounded by the Wolds and they are just as David Hockney painted them, all patchwork fields and rolling countryside.”

While it is small, the village has a strong and active community, along with facilities that those hoping to escape to the country dream of finding.

There’s a great pub – The Old Star Inn, which has open fires, good food, real ale and pub quizzes. There’s also a church, a primary school, a sports field, tennis club, village hall with post office and a garage with a shop.“It’s a very friendly place with lots going on and we will be sad to leave but our son now goes to a special needs school in Hull and it’s a long journey to make every day,” says Simon. “It’s not fair on him and so we are moving closer to the school.”He and Tina have modernised the property with new windows, log-burning stoves and new flooring and decor. The detached house, which overlooks the village pond, has an entrance hall, cloakroom, study, sitting room, kitchen/dining/living room, a utility room and conservatory.

On the first floor, there is a master bedroom with en-suite, a second double bedroom, three further double bedrooms and a bathroom. The second floor has a loft/cinema room. Outside, there is a private rear garden accessed via a gated driveway with detached double garage.
