The clocks might be going back but there's still plenty of daylight to get jobs done in the garden...

Plant out any perennials or biennials you’ve grown from seed this year.

Plant spring bedding such as wallflowers, bellis, primulas and winter pansies.

If your summer containers are looking past their best, re-plant them with fresh winter bedding plants.

This is the ideal time to plant clematis (pictured).

Prune climbing roses and rambling roses once they’ve finished flowering and tie in the stems before the onset of winter.

Cut back perennial plants that have died down or leave the dead foliage in place to provide food for wildlife.

Lift and divide any overcrowded herbaceous perennials while the soil is still warm – replanted now, they should be able to produce new roots to help them get through winter.
