When Ryan Lawson spotted a small, dated, red brick bungalow for sale in the sought-after village of Dore, he saw the potential to turn the ugly duckling into something bigger and more beautiful.

Ryan, who runs an electrical company, has successfully redeveloped a number of properties, and had the skills and the contacts needed to tackle the project.

He says: “I could see immediately that I could convert the loft and add an extension to make it a much bigger house with five bedrooms.”

He bought the property with the intention of living there himself and spared no expense on the makeover. Along with the extensions, he reconfigured the existing space and installed everything from a new heating and lighting system to Cat5 cabling, surround sound and a home cinema system.

The exterior has been covered in a weather-resistant monocouche render to unite the existing building with its new additions and Ryan has constructed a “man cave” in the garden. It features plumbing and electrics and space for a home office.

As his circumstances have changed since buying the detached house, he has put it up for sale, furnishing it for the benefit of would-be buyers.

He says: “I put a lot of effort into this property as the plan was to move in there myself and it’s been very rewarding. I’m really pleased with the way it has turned out and I decided to furnish it because I know that not everyone is able to visualise how it could look and where their furniture might fit.”

Nicola Spencer, of Spencer Estate Agents, describes the conversion from dated bungalow to contemporary, family-size home as “exceptional.”

The house, which is short walk from the centre of Dore village, now has a sitting room, large kitchen/diner with Neff appliances, a cloakroom and three bedrooms and two bathrooms. On the newly-created first floor, there are two double bedrooms and a shower room.

Outside, there is an electric gate leading to ample parking and a large garden, which has a sound and lighting system. The grounds also have a detached garden room/home office.

The property is situated on the top corner of Furniss Avenue, fronting onto Church Lane, within the heart of Dore. The pretty village is one of Sheffield’ most prestigious locations. It has a host of amenities, including a Co-op store, greengrocers, coffee shop, post office and a chemist. There are two popular pubs and several restaurants, along with regular buses to Sheffield City Centre.
