The Wheelhouse, Burley-in-Wharfedale
This grade II listed property underwent a stunning, no-expense-spared conversion to turn it from a derelict cornmill into a luxurious and characterful home.
Owners David and Angela Varley spent four years on the project and have used the building’s industrial heritage to inform the interior design.
“We incorporated a lot of ironwork and used Tom Heys, an artist blacksmith of Flaxton Forge, to make it,” says Angela, who adds: “We have tried to be sympathetic to the history of the mill.”
Inside, the ground floor has an entrance hall with cloakroom, a utility room and an open plan living/dining kitchen with steps up to a gallery.
On the lower ground floor is a sitting room with some of the original workings of the mill encased in glass. There is also a large study/snug.
On the first floor are three double bedrooms with en-suites. On the second floor is a master bedroom with en-suite bathroom.
