Endorsements don’t come much better than high praise from TV presenter Phil Spencer and he almost ran out of superlatives when describing this house.
The property featured on Kirstie and Phil’s “Love It or List It” series on Channel 4 when Phil showed a couple what they could afford if they sold their own home.
“Beautiful, absolutely fabulous, kerb appeal and pretty special” were among the words and phrases captured on film.
Owners Jonathan and Deborah Baker are well aware of the charms of Russet House. They fell in love with it and moved in on Valentine’s Day 2014.
Their previous home was a 100-year-old cottage and they were looking for a complete change.
“We wanted a new house but we didn’t want a run of the mill new-build,” says Deborah.
The search was a challenge as few developers risk doing anything out of the ordinary, preferring tried and tested designs that have mass appeal.
But the couple hit lucky after spotting a contemporary home that was in the process of being built.
“We loved the design and the builder allowed us to choose our own kitchen and bathrooms,” says Deborah, who has had the perfect opportunity to compare the benefits of old and new properties.
“This house is so much energy-efficient than our old one thanks to the high levels of insulation. We have a log-burner and in winter that’s enough to heat the whole house.”
She and Jonathan are reluctantly selling to relocate to another part of the country for work.
Russet House has an entrance hall and cloakroom,a utility room and a large open-plan kitchen with centre island and bi-fold doors leading out to the patio area.
The sitting room has a double-height ceiling, a wood-burning stove and double door to the garden.
Oak stairs lead to a landing full of natural light thanks to remote controlled Velux windows. At the end is a glazed gallery area with double-height window and a glazed roof light.
The main bedroom has an en-suite bathroom and there are three further double bedrooms and a house bathroom.
The property has an internal garage. Outside, there is parking, along with gardens, patio areas and a fire pit.
“We have loved living here and we know we’ll never own anything like this again so leaving is a wrench,” says Deborah.
Estate agent Linden Thornton, of Yorkshire’s Finest, adds: “Situated in the heart of Gomersal village, this is a fantastic contemporary, architect designed detached family home finished to the very highest of standards throughout.”
