Plant of the week: Meconopsis cambrica

THE little Welsh wizard that keeps on flowering

MECONOPSIS cambrica is a lovely little flower which deserves to be given a home in any garden, where its lemony blooms and pale green leaves can light up late spring. It’s better known as the Welsh poppy, and it can produce flowers on and off from late spring right through till autumn, so it’s a valuable asset to have. The blooms (singles or doubles, depending on the variety) are held aloft on seemingly-fragile stems, but these are tough little flowers which prefer a bit of shade. They seed freely, which is why plants can pop up in the most surprising of places.
