Challenge is taking on its second epic cycling challenge, riding from Scotland to Sheffield this weekend, to raise money for Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity. All the funds raised will go towards life-changing projects within the region’s only cancer hospital, Weston Park Hospital.

Last year’s challenge saw a group of riders from ASK4 and other Sheffield businesses complete a 380 mile bike ride, cycling between the four internet exchange points in the UK. Exceeding their initial target of £10,000, the riders went on to raise an outstanding £30,000 for the provision of a Digital Patient Information System in Weston Park Hospital’s Radiotherapy Department, which treats people from across South Yorkshire.

Weston Park Hospital is one of only a handful of specialist cancer hospitals in England and treats patients from all over South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire and North Derbyshire – a population of almost 1.8 million people.

On Friday 4Challenge will leave Edinburgh with the aim of arriving in Sheffield on the June 27 after covering 310 miles and climbing up to 23,000 feet to raise as much money as possible for Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity.

“We were amazed and humbled at how much we managed to raise in 2015,” says ASK4 director and 4Challenge founder Jon Thornhill.

This year the team will be wearing kit designed by a pupil at Hinde House School following a competition won by

“Everyone worked so hard and the support we had from the children and staff at Hinde House was just fantastic. We’re all really looking forward to wearing Lewis’s kit design and taking on more miles for such an important cause.”

The cancer charity needs to raise over £2 million this year to enable the funding of committed and new projects that will keep patients at the forefront of cancer treatment.

Throughout 2016, the cancer charity will fund various projects to enable the continued improvement of Weston Park Hospital including the expansion of research studies, improving the way cancer treatments are delivered, and supporting the ongoing care provisions of patients and their families affected by cancer.
