High street name unveils Fairtrade collection ideal for festival season

In anticipation of Fairtrade fortnight later this month, Topshop is boosting its support of world-wide fair trading with an 11-piece collection which offers perfect pieces for the festival season, as part of the brand’s spring/summer gypsy rocker trend, called Snake Valley.

Abstract feather prints and geometric tassels adorn staple jersey vests in a palette of fiery burgundies, magentas, yellows and white. Fringed batwing boleros and over-sized plaited snoods provide cover up for late-night fireside dancing.

Topshop has been working with fair trade cotton for four years and this season also introduces Fairtrade-certified cotton into its mainline Moto denim collections. The chain says the new initiatives reaffirm its commitment to providing ethically sourced fabrics in up-to-the minute trends.

Meanwhile, iconic fabric design house, Liberty Art Fabrics has created a limited edition bag for Red Nose Day, which takes place on Friday, March 18.

The collaboration combines the heritage and aspiration of Liberty Art Fabrics with the fun and humour of Comic Relief to create a stylish canvas coated shopper. This is the first time that classic Liberty prints have been developed into a product exclusively for charity with all profits from the sales going direct to Comic Relief to help people living unimaginably tough lives both across the UK and Africa.

The shopper comes in the fabric design Winter Stem, a geometric pattern of flowers in diagonal wavy lines designed by the artist Angie Lewin. The print has been given a unique twist with the subtle addition of the Comic Relief Red Nose.

Kirsty Carey, managing director, Liberty Art Fabrics, said: “This a very special collaboration and something we are both extremely excited and honored to be involved with. It’s the first time we’ve partnered with a charity and used our prints to create a limited edition shopper that’s a driving force for good. We hope it will fly off the shelves and raise lots of money for Comic Relief.”

The shopper costs £12.99 with £4 going to Comic Relief, available from Liberty and all HomeSense stores.
