In search of the light fantastic

YOU need to scrub and moisturise before attempting the self-tan. Stephanie Smith checks out what’s on offer.

THE lush moisture of the Amazon rainforest provides inspiration for new body brand Amazene, which offers a gorgeous range of natural body skin products which are SLS and parabens free, suitable for even the most sensitive of skins, and which contain exotic ingredients from the rainforest area, from guava to murumuru.

Check out the Passion Fruit and Guava Body Butter (£14.95) which glides into skin and gives a heavenly scent perfect for applying fake tan over, not least because it can help take a way some of the tell-tale biscuit aroma of developing self-tanners.

Shower gels costs £6.95, and the range is available at Barkers department store in Northallerton.

BEFORE the self-tan (or the real one) and before the moisturiser comes the all-important exfoliation process, and this Exotic Lime and Ginger Salt Glow is just what the beauty doctor ordered, with an exhilarating and totally heavenly scent that puts a zing in your step and puts you right in the mood for an exotic holiday (although the jar is a little too heavy to put in your case). It costs £35 from Elemis spa stockists and from the beauty halls in Debenhams department stores.

THE Great Pretender Shimmery Self-Tanner for Body by Origins is a tinted, self-tanning gel that provides an immediate bronzed glow as it tans and gives non-streak application that develops into a believable tan that looks smooth and even for days. DHA (from yeast) copies nature’s colour by interacting with skin’s-own proteins to make even lilywhite limbs look richly bronzed. It’s £15 for 150ml from department stores and full details of stockists on 0800 731 4039.

NEW from Lush comes this large tub of gloriously rich and creamy Creme Anglaise, which is made with some of the finest and freshest ingredients available, just as we have come to expect from Lush. It’s great for hands, which can become very dry in the summer, but also for all over, with toning sweet orange oil and moisturising natural butters blended into an almond infusion. An infusion of saffron, the world’s most expensive spice, gives it the authentically golden colour of real Creme Anglaise and brings a lavish luxury to spread before you self tan, and also afterwards to help soothe and smooth. It’s £25 for 225g from Lush stores.
