Unleash your inner disco diva

BEAUTY It’s not just Seventies’ shoes and kaftans that are back. Stephanie Smith has tips on glitter glam make-up.

Generally speaking, the younger you are, the more eye make-up and blusher you can wear, so teens and 20-somethings can pile on the glitter with relish – look out for bronze and silvery eyeshadows with shimmery particles densely packed for depth of shine and pure luxe effect, as seen here in this Disco Fever collection from JK Jemma Kidd, which uses the new Glitterati Shadow Dust Duo on eyes, a liquid shadow with a roll-on glitter dust, in mink, gold or silver, at £10. Blusher is used high on cheekbones (JK Jemma Kidd In-Vogue Perfect Blush in three-colour families of five tints each to blend, £12), and the look is completed with fine eyeliner, full and separated lashes (use a lash curler if you don’t use falsies) and nude sheeny lips. All available at www.asos.com.

Try MAC’s pigment pots in a metallic shade over eyeshadow for a really excellent catwalk-style dense shine effect.

Older eyes will need to be handled more carefully, as glitter eyeshadow can look crepey. Use an eyeshadow primer first and they try a cream shadow (Estée Lauder’s are excellent and stay put all day), or try a less dense powder shadow with a sheer look (try Bobbi Brown for this).

Lips need shine too, but it’s a good idea to go a little more subtle if your eyes have glitter, so try a sheeny nude shade rather than disco orange.
