Former Michelin star restaurant The Yorke Arms granted wedding license as it reopens as Yorkshire 'country house for hire'

One of the region’s most renowned restaurant settings has taken another step towards its reinvention as a country house for hire as it is formally granted a wedding license.

The Yorke Arms at Ramsgill, which once held one of Yorkshire’s only Michelin stars under chef Frances Atkins, announced earlier this year that it would not reopen as a restaurant.

Owner Jonathan Turner, speaking to The Yorkshire Post as the move was revealed, said it must adapt to thrive with its smaller space and limited fine-dining covers.

Now the former coaching inn, which had been serving food for over 100 years, continues apace in its reinvention as it is granted approval to host civil ceremonies on site.

With wedding parties now limited to 15 people it comes as a timely move for the Nidderdale setting, as it seeks a sustainable future outside of the traditional restaurant trade.

Gone are the restaurant’s dining room tables, replaced by sofas and a television for a more homely feel to welcome smaller gatherings.

“It’s never been more important to celebrate weddings and to make the most of what we’re allowed to do in these challenging times,” said Laura Shinkfield, hospitality sales manager.
