'Safari-style' glamping tents could be coming to a campsite in Yorkshire
Plans to convert farmland near Withernsea into a campsite featuring six safari-style glamping tents have been lodged with East Riding Council.
Planning documents submitted to East Riding Council stated the field at Grange Farm, Humber Lane, Welwick, would also accommodate campers’ own tents, motor homes and caravans.
Applicants Tony and Kay Booth have also applied to built two homes on the west of the site, one for themselves and another they plan to rent out.
Plans for the site stated the six glamping tents would cater for campers who wanted more privacy while in the the countryside.
The application proposed placing the glamping tents next to pitches for other campers so all guests can mingle and take part in activities together.
The safari-style tents would be made out of canvas, PVC to protect them from ground conditions, wood, water repellent and fire retardant canvas.
Plans stated the area earmarked for the rest of the tents, caravans and other vehicles had been designed to have the least possible impact on the natural environment.
They added site owners hoped guests would be able to go on walks in the surrounding area. The north side of the site would be resurfaced with concrete allowing vehicles to move over stable ground.
It would also provide a base for the three toilets and three showers planned to serve guests at the site. Two stables and a barn are also proposed as part of the plans to house mostly ducks and chickens and store farming machinery.
A 1.5m timber fence has been proposed around the farm buildings to separate them from the wider campsite.
Plans stated: “The proposed alteration to the site will not have major effects on the surrounding properties. Existing access will be used by people to enter the site and therefore no alteration will be required to the existing landscape.
“The materials used for the construction of the two new residential buildings will be matching the materials used for the surrounding buildings. Additionally, the height of these new buildings will not interfere with any immediate neighbouring properties because the area where these two new buildings will be relocated is more internal to the main road.
“Ultimately by allowing more people to stay on site and explore the area it will allow the economy of the area to be improved.”
