The 25-year-old joined the Millers on loan on deadline day and made his club debut as they defeated Derby County 3-0 on Wednesday night.

He had made 15 appearances for Boro in all competitions prior to his departure and Warnock hopes he will get a regular run of matches in south Yorkshire.

Sheffield-born Warnock has an affinity with the Millers, having made over 50 appearances as a player and enjoyed a successful spell as manager in 2016.

"He has been pestering me to play games. He is more of a regular first-team player so I was reluctant to let him go," said Warnock.

"Paul Warne asked me a couple of weeks ago if I would let him go and then we had another couple of clubs come in for him.

"I thought if we were bringing more players in then I would need to try and balance the books.

"I also thought it would be great for him to go and have 17 or 18 games and he needs that.

"I thought it was a great move for everybody. I love doing Rotherham a favour and I thought Wingy could go and keep them up."
