A police officer says he is “gobsmacked” after pulling over a motorist for driving at 105mph and finding he had his wife and three young children with him.
The VW Golf, driven by a 42-year-old man from Leeds, was stopped on the A1(M) near Baldersby in North Yorkshire at 1.55pm yesterday. The driver was reported for the offence and a file will be prepared ahead of a possible summons being issued.
Traffic sergeant Paul Cording of North Yorkshire Police said: “I was gobsmacked when I approached the vehicle and saw the three children in the rear and could not believe someone would put their own family at such risk.
“Speeding is one of the fatal four contributory factors to serious and fatal road traffic collisions and we will continue to robustly enforce these to try and reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured on our roads.”
