12 year-old boy killed as he crosses road on way to school

A 12 year-old boy died this morning crossing the A64 in North Yorkshire on his way to school.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the incident at West Heslerton, which occurred at just after 7.40am between two bus stops near the Stones Garage.

The boy was crossing the road heading towards a bus stop. Police said the incident involved a blue grey Renault Scenic and a white Transit van.

The boy was taken by ambulance to Scarborough General Hospital where he later died.

The A64 was closed in both directions following the collision.

Sergeant John Clayton, of North Yorkshire Police said: "I am urging anyone who was in the area at the time of the collision to come forward.

"In particular I need to speak to the drivers of two vehicles which passed through the scene a few moments after it occurred and ask them to contact me as soon as possible."
