2012 Jane Tomlinson Walk For All: Stress relief the benefit for NHS pair

Grant and Phil Mitchell – otherwise known as friends Shaun Phelan and Paul Hooper – laughed and joked through the blisters and pouring rain as they clocked up the miles.

The bald pair, who work as occupational therapists for the NHS in Bradford, opted for the 26 mile route, raising money for the Jane Tomlinson charity.

Shaun said the surroundings of the Yorkshire Dales made it a
perfect antidote to the stresses of life.

Speaking before the afternoon downpour, he said: “It’s perfect; the church bells are tolling, we are walking beside the river and it’s a perfect day – what more could you want?

“This walk, 26, is a challenge and we won’t be breaking any world records with our time.”

Walking close behind them were Helen Kempster and her daughter Fern, 15, from Cross Hills near Skipton.

Mrs Kempster is hoping to raise £500 for the Martin House children’s hospice in memory of her daughter Ena, who died from leukaemia.
