Forecasters are predicting very unsettled weather conditions for this weekend – including heavy rain and strong winds - and, on the advice of experts, it has been decided the event cannot go ahead.

The event has now been rescheduled to Sunday, September 1.

Yorkshire Swimming Festival event director, Sara Birkinshaw, said: “The safety of our participants is absolutely our number one concern. The conditions predicted for Sunday would make swimming conditions extremely challenging and we feel it would be irresponsible to go ahead.

“We would rather have to disappoint people rather than put them at risk.

“We have been able to reschedule the event for Sunday 1st September. Any participant who is unable to take part – or no longer wishes to – will be offered a full refund.

“We are really sorry to have to take this decision but I am sure that our participants will understand that their safety has to come first.”
