350,000 enquiries for 60 police jobs

A dedicated recruitment phoneline crashed on its first day – after more than 20,000 callers rang North Yorkshire Police to ask about just 60 job vacancies.

Now, the police have received more than 350,000 inquiries about the jobs.

Deputy chief constable Adam Briggs said applications had increased as unemployment had risen during the recession, but he added that the police force’s reputation was also a reason.
