371 jobs lost as parts firm folds

A Yorkshire company which designs and manufactures mud flaps and accelerator pedals has gone into administration with the loss of 371 jobs.

Birkby’s Plastics, based in Liversedge, West Yorkshire, is one of the UK’s leading independent automotive injection moulding supply partners.

It had been looking for a buyer since the beginning of the year but said it did not receive an acceptable offer.

Established in 1867, Birkby’s designs, moulds and assembles plastic products for the automotive and specialist engineering industry, operating 71 presses based at a 24-acre site in Liversedge.

Hunter Kelly and Charles King, from Ernst & Young in Leeds, were appointed joint administrators yesterday.
