PICKING the perfect anniversary present for your beloved gets harder and harder as the years go by - but for one Bradford couple, it must have been exceptionally tough, as this week they celebrated their 89th wedding anniversary.
The family and friends of Karam and Kartari Chand gathered at their home on Thursday to celebrate the occasion.
Mr and Mrs Chand, who are 109 and 102 respectively, were born in India, and first met as teenagers. They were married in 1925, the year Margaret Thatcher was born and Stanley Baldwin was British Prime Minister.
Their son Paul Chand said: “Next year, by the grace of God, will be the big one - 90 years.”
The couple are thought to be the longest-married couple in the world, beating the current Guinness World Records holders, Herbert and Zelmyra Fisher, who were married for 86 years.
