Acas talks try toavert Tube strikes

Crucial talks aimed at averting strikes by thousands of London Underground workers in a row over jobs are to be held at the conciliation service Acas today.

London Underground bosses will meet leaders of the Rail Maritime and Transport union and the Transport Salaried Staffs Association in an attempt to resolve the dispute and head off a series of 24-hour walkouts from next Monday evening, September 6, in protest at plans to cut 800 jobs.
