Accident verdict on snowboard death

A British holidaymaker was killed snowboarding after he tried to swerve to avoid a skier at a Californian mountain resort, an inquest has heard.

Experienced snowboarder Christopher Perring, 34, changed direction to avoid another person and hit a signpost on the slopes of the Heavenly Resort in Lake Tahoe, crushing his chest. Windsor Coroner’s Court heard the accident took place in January while Mr Perring, an accountant from Sandhurst in Berkshire, was on holiday with his wife Stephanie.

Peter Bedford, the coroner for Berkshire, said Mr Perring’s death had been caused by massive internal bleeding.

He said: “The whole purpose of snowboarding is doing it at speed because that is the thrill.

“Mr Perring liked the adrenaline rush and liked speed.

“He was doing something he loved to do, but it comes with risks.”

He recorded a verdict of accidental death.
