AN inner-city primary school has become the first in the Manningham area of Bradford to be rated as outstanding by Ofsted inspectors.

Iqra Community Primary was described as offering “the highest standards of care” to its pupils in a new report published by the schools watchdog.

Inspectors praised the school’s head teacher Shahnaz Anwar-Bleem as an outstanding leader who has taken Iqra Primary from strength to strength.

Pupil behaviour at Iqra is praised as outstanding and Ofsted inspectors say the high attendance record reflects the children’s enjoyment of their school.

Iqra was previously rated as a good school in its last Ofsted inspection in 2007.

It is now one of 26 schools across the Bradford district rated as outstanding - the highest grade a school can receive.

The latest report says that pupils feel safe and have a “sense of pride and belonging in the school” while parents and carers are positive about the education Iqra provides.

Mrs Anwar-Bleem said: “The staff, pupils, parents and governors and the local community are delighted with Ofsted’s findings.

“This is a major achievement and it is testimony to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved with the school.”

A statement from Education Bradford, the private firm which is approaching the end of a 10-year contract to run the city’s education authority, said: “Iqra Community Primary is the latest in a growing list of schools in Bradford to be judged good or outstanding by Ofsted.

“The total so far stands at 116 with 26 judged as outstanding and 90 as good.”
