Action plan for city area could see thousands of homes built over 15 years

THE Kingswood area of Hull could get its own council-approved action plan to guide its development over the next 15 years.

Hull Council's planning committee is being asked to approve the formation of a plan that could see thousands of new homes built and improvements to amenities.

Outlining the need for the strategy, a report to the committee said: "Kingswood is a major area of change in Hull and needs a long-term vision and planning framework in order to make it a lasting location of choice for existing and potential new residents in Hull.

"Kingswood has been providing a unique residential offer in Hull, attracting aspirational households, including young families, but it also needs to address a number of issues in order to preserve and enhance its role as a successful location now and in the future."

The report said there was enough land available in Kingswood to build 4,500 new homes.

The proposed action plan would cover a large part of the Kings ward, including Kingswood residential area, Kingswood retail and leisure parks, Connaught Road businesses, Bransholme lagoon, and the new residential development on a former waste water treatment works at Selset Way.

The plan would explore the possibility of relocating an overhead electricity line that currently crosses the northern part of Kingswood.

Other planning issues it would address include flood risk mitigation schemes – Kingswood was one of the worst-hit areas of the city in the 2007 floods – and the future use of council-owned land in the area.
