Advanced party recce hall ahead of reopening

HOME Guard soldiers Cpl Paul Roberts, Sgt Stephen Bulmer and Maj David Livesey returned to a country house in Yorkshire yesterday to help launch a celebration of its role in the British war effort.

Brodsworth Hall, near Doncaster, was requisitioned by the Army during the Second World War, and the house is one of nine across Yorkshire involved in Duty Calls: The Country House in Time of War.

Each venue is hosting exhibitions exploring the impact of war and a series of recordings made by people who were at Brodsworth between 1939 and 1945 are among the exhibits available for visitors.

The three members of the Pontefract Home Guard re-enactment group were asked to visit yesterday ahead of taking part in events at the hall throughout the summer.
