LEEDS could soon be vying for the title of European Capital of Culture.

Civic leaders are set to start discussions about putting the city – home of Europe’s oldest authentic West Indian carnival, the Opera North HQ and the Henry Moore Institute – forward for the prestigious title in 2023.

Leeds’s bid for recognition will start in earnest with an initial discussion event at Leeds Town Hall during the afternoon of Tuesday January 7.

The European Capital of Culture award is separate to the UK City of Culture prize recently awarded to Hull for 2017.
