After only a month, vandals damage Hull's Philip Larkin statue

VANDALS have damaged the glasses on a statue in Hull which was recently unveiled in tribute to the poet Philip Larkin.

The sculpture was placed at city's train station last month, to mark on the 25th anniversary of his death.

But the piece suffered damage to its spectacles between Christmas and New Year.

Larkin spent much of his life in Hull and is buried in the city.

Professor Graham Chesters, chairman of Larkin 25 - an organisation which arranged for the tribute - said: "I am disappointed, but it is only a minor piece of damage and I am confident it will be repaired quickly."
