‘Aggressive’ driving blamed for fatal crash

A CORONER has criticised “aggressive driving” after a teenage car fanatic and his two passengers died when his souped-up Vauxhall Corsa went too fast round a bend.

Jono Scott, 17, had been racing two other cars before the fatal crash on December 27, 2010, witnesses told an inquest.

An accident investigator said powerful rear disc brakes which had been fitted contributed to the accident when they locked.

The Corsa ploughed head-on into a VW Golf and skidded before coming to rest on Adwick Road in Mexborough, South Yorkshire.

Jono and his passengers Bobby Tepper, 17, and his girlfriend Lauren Birkett, 16, all died.

Doncaster coroner Nicola Mundy recorded an accidental death verdict on Jono and narrative verdicts for Bobby and Lauren.

She said the latter pair were passengers in a vehicle “driven in a manner which exposed themselves to risk of serious injury or death, and a collision occurred from which they died”.

Jono’s girlfriend Chloe Newby was the only survivor from the wrecked Corsa.
