Air museum flies to top of list as visitors pick best days out out in region

SOME of North Yorkshire’s leading tourist attractions have been named in a national people’s choice awards to highlight the best days out.

The Yorkshire Air Museum in Elvington, the Lightwater Valley theme park and Ripon Workhouse Museum have all picked up accolades in the competition run by the leading tourism newspaper, Going Places.

The Going Places publication has been running for the last 20 years and is seen as a leading voice for pinpointing the nation’s major tourist attractions.

The winners were selected on the experiences of visitors who rated the attractions on a range of criteria including the cleanliness of the sites and the helpfulness of staff.

The managing director for Going Places, Ken Darville-Smith, said: “This is an opportunity to recognise some of the leading attractions in places like Yorkshire and the efforts of the staff who work there.”

All three tourist attractions were named in the regional category for Yorkshire, with the air museum being named as the best specialist attraction.

The Workhouse Museum won the best museum category, while Lightwater Valley, which is at North Stainley near Ripon, was named as the best theme park.
