Airport vows to reunite tourists with luggage

air passengers who took off without their luggage because of a power cut at Gatwick Airport would be reunited with it by today at the latest, officials said.

About 2,500 bags failed to make it on to the same flight as their owners following the cut at the West Sussex airport’s North Terminal at about 3.30am on Saturday.

Electricity was promptly restored but eight baggage belts were frozen until they were all brought back into action by 10.30am.

Best-selling crime thriller novelist Peter James was among passengers left without their luggage after he flew out to the French Alps with British Airways.

He commented on the social networking site Twitter: “Sunday morning in the French Alps and still no bags. British Airways have taken utter incompetence to new heights.”

Officials at Gatwick apologised to travellers.
