Airport welcomes new arrival

Low-cost airline Ryanair opened its new base yesterday at Leeds Bradford Airport.

The company is offering 14 new routes and 63 weekly return flights to and from the airport. Two of its aircraft will be based there.

The new routes take Ryanair's total number of destinations from Leeds Bradford to 17 and the airline anticipates that it will transport one million passengers a year to and from the airport and sustain 1,000 jobs at its new base.

Tourism bosses are expecting an influx of tourists through Leeds Bradford, with advertising aiming to entice the French, Italians and others to enjoy Yorkshire landscape, food and culture.
