'Al-Qaida' group held over attack on UK envoy

At least seven suspected al- Qaida members have been arrested in connection with an attack on Britain's number two diplomat in Yemen, security services said.

A source said the suspects were detained in the Yemeni capital Sana’a on Wednesday, hours after a rocket was fired at a British convoy.

Four people were wounded in the attack, including an embassy official, although Britain’s deputy chief of mission, Fionna Gibb, was unharmed.

The source said the attack highlighted the Yemeni security forces’ troubles in securing the capital.
