PRODUCERS of this year’s Christmas panto at Hull New Theatre are promising it will have a bit of the “X Factor”, after handing the leading role to one of the contestants from the TV show.

Former X Factor hopeful Chico will play Aladdin when the popular pantomime begins a month-long run at the Kingston Square theatre on December 9.

Joining him will be former Crackerjack presenter Stu Francis, as Aladdin’s cheeky brother Wishee Washee, and Dean Sullivan, best known for playing Jimmy Corkhill in Brookside, who will be treading the boards as the wicked sorcerer Abanazar.

Executive Producer Jon Conway said: “We are delighted that Chico will be appearing in the pantomime at Hull and thrilled that he will lead the cast of Aladdin at the New Theatre.

“Chico always throws himself so enthusiastically into his pantomime roles and makes a cheeky and very dashing Aladdin.”

As well as telling the story of Aladdin, the production will offer audiences a chance to feel closer to the action by wearing 3D glasses for parts of the show.

This will allow them to “rub” the lamp to summon a 3D genie, and join Aladdin on a magic carpet ride. Aladdin is being staged by Qdos Entertainment, the world’s largest pantomime producer.
