Aladdin's lamp made powerless by ill musician

A THEATRE has cancelled a production of Aladdin because its musical director has fallen ill.

About 180 pupils from Healey junior and infants school in Batley were due to see yesterday afternoon's show at Leeds's West Yorkshire Playhouse but it was called off when composer Ivan Stott, who also plays the Sultan, became sick. The pupils were said to be very disappointed.

The morning show went ahead without him because the audience had already arrived but the second show was cancelled. Mr Stott's absence meant the cast was down to only five.

A spokeswoman said they hoped this week's other shows would take place but theatre-goers are should check with the box office on 0113 213 7700 before setting off.
