Alcoholic given first city-wide pub ban

A Hull man has been banned from every pub and bar in the city.

Robert Elton, 46, has been made subject of the first city-wide drink banning order (DBO), which also stops him from carrying alcohol.

Under the terms of the DBO, which last 12 months, Elton, from Shipton Close, Bilton, also must not be “drunk in a public place within the boundary of Kingston-upon-Hull on any day at any time.”

Elton received a conditional discharge from magistrates earlier this week for being drunk and disorderly on Morrill Street, Hull on July 2.

As well as securing the order, officers have referred Elton to alcohol support services to help tackle his alcohol dependency.

Inspector Barry Longstaff said the first city-wide DBO would be welcomed by businesses who had been affected by Elton when he was under the influence of alcohol. More than 40 DBOs have been issued in Hull this year.

He said: “Mr Elton has openly admitted that he has an alcohol problem and has personally welcomed the DBO as he feels it will help in curbing his alcohol dependency.

“I hope that he engages with support available and changes his lifestyle for the better.”
