Alert on credit card scam by bogus police

fraudsters impersonating police officers have led a Yorkshire force to issue a new warning about giving out personal and bank details over the phone.

South Yorkshire Police said it had been made aware of a spate of calls in which offenders tried to pass themselves off as detectives in a bid to steal.

Both private householders and businesses have been targeted by the callers who claim to be investigating card fraud and ask for details of debit and credit cards.

A police spokesman said: “Anyone who receives or who has received a call like this should not provide details but call South Yorkshire Police on 101.”
