Algerian police chiefkilled by colleague

The head of Algeria's national police force has been shot dead by a colleague.

Ali Tounsi was killed during a meeting in his office at security headquarters in Algiers. Two other people were injured in the attack.

The attacker, an unidentified police colonel, shot himself afterward but it was unclear if he survived.

Mr Tounsi played a key role in the fight against Islamist insurgents who almost brought the country to its knees in the 1990s.
