The service, which is being launched by Arriva North East, has been made possible through funding from the Yorkshire Dales Society to help improve transport links in the national park.

Colin Speakman, chairman of the society, said: “We think the new service will prove to be extremely popular with the public and will also help boost the local economy by bringing visitors into the area. This is a fantastic new Sunday and Bank Holiday bus service into the heart of the Dales.”

Nick Knox, area managing director for Arriva North East, said: “We are delighted to be operating the Northern Dalesman and we hope we can attract more and more passengers to this special service. I know our drivers are really looking forward to transporting our passengers across this beautiful and scenic countryside.”
