All-night party refused over dubious royal link

PLANS for an all-night party to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in Sheffield look set to be blocked after police expressed concerns that royal celebration would not be the focus of festivities.

A temporary licence application has been lodged with Sheffield Council for the event at the Everyone Centre in Broadfield Road, Sheffield, which is planned to run between 11pm and 5am on Sunday, June 3.

But South Yorkshire Police have called on licencing chiefs to refuse the licence, unless the organisers can prove they plan to celebrate the monarch’s 60 years on the throne.

In a letter to the city’s licencing committee, officers say: “We have concerns that the event is of a different nature to the details stated. In light of this we object to the application.”
