Allotments pop up in Leeds city centre

THE LORD Mayor of Leeds helped allotment holders celebrate a special birthday in Leeds city centre.

Coun Jane Dowson paid an impromptu visit to a pop up allotment set up by Leeds District Allotment Gardeners Federation in Park Square as part of their centenary celebrations.

The pop up allotment was due to be sited in from of Leeds Town Hall today. (Frid Aug 8)

Phil Gomersall, the society’s publicity officer, said: “The idea is to celebrate our centenary and to publicise allotments.

“There was high demand for allotments about five years ago but it has levelled off a bit now. We still have waiting lists, but they are a lot smaller now.”
