AN Alzheimer’s sufferer who died at the age of 91 has left a 10,000 legacy to aid research into the disease. Phyllis Manville, who lived in Ecclesall, in Sheffield remained “fiercely independent”.

Mrs Manville’s son Bill, who lives in Oxford, said: “My dear mum lived with Alzheimer’s for ten years.

“She knew there was little that could be done to help her as there is still so much to be learnt about this cruel disease and little money for research. I’m proud to know that her generosity will make a difference.”

Chief executive of the Alzheimer’s Research Trust Rebecca Wood said: “This money will fund over 800 hours of world-class research.”
